About GAD and GADZooks

GAD, Nicaragua’s Gender and Development committee, comprised of Volunteers from each sector in Peace Corps, is committed to the dissemination of gender and development theory and practice to strengthen the impact of PCV work and sustainability in their communities.

Our Objectives:
  1. Orient trainees to Peace Corps development theories in the present Nicaraguan context.
  2. Provide ongoing training and technical support to PCVs throughout service in order to promote gender sensitive development practices.
  3. Raise national awareness of gender issues and machismo in Nicaragua.
  4. Connect PCVs with in-country GAD focused groups and available resources.
  5. Encourage sustainable change in gender development through collaboration with host country nationals and local organizations.

What We Do:
  • Provide Support for PSTs, ISTs, Counterpart Day, and VAC meetings.
  • Share regular interactive opportunities for other PCVs during the year.
  • Organize and run a successful Camp GLOW every year.
  • Raise funds for gender related development projects.
